Littleton, Colorado – On June 29th, Oakman Aerospace Inc. hosted 24 Colorado Space Business Roundtable Summer Interns at their Littleton facility. The afternoon was spent engaging the interns through education, outreach, and hands-on problem solving. The interns had the opportunity to tour OAI’s clean room and integration laboratory to see the projects currently underway, gain career advice from President and Chief Systems Engineer Stanley Kennedy, Jr., as well as compete to design a 1U CubeSat mission that maximized capability while minimizing cost.
Ryan McCormick (current OAI Summer Intern & CSBR Summer Intern) and Neil Friedman (OAI Software Engineer, previous OAI Summer Intern, and previous CSBR Summer Interns), organized the hands-on challenge. “We wanted to give real-life scenarios to the interns to highlight the difficulty most aerospace engineers face every day. Programs are full of decisions to cut costs or increase capability and the students were able to get a taste of that dilemma through these demonstrations”. – Ryan McCormick
OAI enjoys being able to be a part of the CSBR Summer Intern program and continues to look for ways to enhance and increase STEM outreach for developing the next generation of space enthusiasts.
