Redwire RF Antenna Technology Broadens Range of Link 16 Communications Network for U.S. Military
Link 16 is a standardized military communications system used by U.S. and NATO to exchange tactical data in real time. Link 16 technology is critical for U.S. and allied warfighters, and enables battlefield information to be relayed to decision makers in real time. Data transmitted on this system is currently limited to other terminals within line of sight, limiting data exchange between military aircraft, ships, or ground forces beyond line of sight.
The Air Force Research Laboratory sought to overcome this challenge, and in 2019, selected ViaSat to develop a Link 16-capable satellite. ViaSat selected Redwire’s RF antenna technology to be an integral part of the world’s first-ever Link 16-capable low-Earth orbit spacecraft pilot program. Redwire has deep experience developing deployable solutions and RF antennas for small satellites powered by its high rate production facility in Longmont, Colorado.
