Digital Engineering & Modeling/Simulation

Redwire’s Digital Engineering Enterprise empowers customers to take on their most ambitious missions by enabling them to develop and test concepts with greater agility and lower technical risk and cost. Built upon our Advanced Configurable Open-system Research Network (ACORN) framework, Redwire has built and operated secured digital engineering labs with core mission capabilities including all-domain modeling and simulation; hybrid architectures and mesh networks; cyber testing, evaluation, and resilience; RF phenomenology characterization; and flight software development.
SPOTLIGHT

SpaceCREST

SpaceCREST will be a critical tool for proactive maintenance and protection of government and commercial customers building the next generation of resilient space architectures.

SpaceCREST utilizes Redwire’s extensive digital engineering capabilities to make cybersecurity analysis of space assets more streamlined and reliable. With Redwire’s ACORN tools and technologies, SpaceCREST enables users to simulate and emulate various hardware and
software systems as they are being designed and built.

Developed with BigBear.ai, SpaceCREST is currently being used in the development of an advanced satellite communication program sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Digital Engineering

How Redwire Does It

Digital engineering is a critical practice to ensure programs maintain on schedule and under budget and to effectively manage technical risk. Redwire personnel are digital engineering subject matter experts within the industry and are often invited to speak/lead panels surrounding this subject. Whether participating in an industry discussion, publishing digital engineering procedures or thought pieces, or executing a program of record, Redwire engineers always strive to maintain a strict vision of digital engineering, with a focus on maintaining a single source of truth and a path to building true digital twins. Committing to these two ideals in all Redwire digital engineering practices anchors programs to a common standard of excellence and a reliable product.

Modeling & Simulation

Redwire’s Advanced Configurable Open-system Research Network (ACORN) is a rich set of tools and applications, built on a modular software architecture, designed to support the integration of multiple, disparate systems into a common environment for overarching mission analysis. This Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) based solution is proven for rapidly building models and simulations of targeted assets. ACORN is flexible, extensible, and agnostic to electrical interfaces, software/firmware modules, and hardware/sub-system components. ACORN, combined with Redwire’s Digital Engineering SME, is the backbone supporting space system design, hardware/software integration, and test.

Communications Networking

Redwire’s Link Supervisor is a standalone application designed to communicate with ACORN (or other open-system architectures) and characterize over the air communication links between assets. It has been used to evaluate link budget performance of both RF and optical communication channels, whether it be an ACORN asset representing a spacecraft, a stationary ground target, or a moving ground target. The link budget performance is achieved by fully characterizing the communication emittance energy and evaluating performance metrics against varying, user defined models and limitations.

Infinite Node Simulation

Next generation satellite constellations and Joint All Domain Command and Control (C2) are some of the most complex systems the world will rely upon for everyday life. Building a large simulation environment capable of modeling these systems will require a unique scalability not regularly (or easily) achieved. Using ACORN simulation framework and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Redwire has demonstrated more than 4,000 ACORN nodes simultaneously in a cloud-based environment. Each ACORN node is individually configurable at the component, sub-component, and even data bus traffic at a bit level detail. This functionality allows users to model the most complex systems at the highest level of fidelity.
