Dave Reed, Redwire Director of Spaceport Operations, has been selected to serve on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s (the National Academies) Panel on Lunar and Planetary Science for the study “Key Non-Polar Destinations across the Moon to Address Decadal-level Science Objectives with Human Explorers.” The panel, which consists of experts from across the field of planetary science, will gather information and identify the science objectives related to planetary sciences, along with lunar geology and geophysics, that would be most enabled by human explorers on the Moon. This panel is one of four contributing to the study; the steering committee will synthesize input from all four panels into a unified strategy and prioritized list of high-value sortie destinations for future human missions to the Moon.
At Redwire, Reed manages and provides technical direction for Redwire’s Mission Integration and Operations department. Reed has been involved in the solicitation, design, development, operation, and program management of human spaceflight payloads for over 33 years including physical sciences and biology payloads aboard Spacelab, Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station.
The National Academies perform a unique public service by bringing together experts in all areas of scientific and technological endeavor. These experts serve as volunteers to address critical national issues and provide unbiased advice to the federal government, other policy and decision makers, and the public.
